Pune: In a landmark step towards creating inclusive employment opportunities, Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO), an establishment under the Indian Army. The collaboration aims to provide meaningful career opportunities to ex-servicemen, army spouses, and war widows, enabling their seamless transition into civilian life.
As part of this initiative, Amazon India will share job listings and recruitment details with AWPO, focusing on three key groups—retired personnel, army spouses, and widows of soldiers who lost their lives in service. Awareness sessions, webinars, and workshops will also be organized to guide applicants on career prospects at Amazon.
Speaking on the partnership, Deepti Varma, Vice President – People Experience & Technology, Amazon Stores (India, Japan & Emerging Markets), said:
“At Amazon, we are committed to building a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace. Veterans and their spouses bring leadership qualities, operational excellence, and a strong mission-oriented approach—values that align perfectly with Amazon’s culture. This partnership with AWPO is an important step to empower military families with meaningful career opportunities that match their skills and experiences.”
The collaboration is part of Amazon’s global efforts such as the Military Hiring Program and Military Spouse Fellowship Program, which provide mentorship, training, and job placements to military families.

Echoing this commitment, Major General Ajay Singh Chauhan (Retd.), Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal, and Managing Director, AWPO, said:
“AWPO is dedicated to the welfare of soldiers and their families. Our partnership with Amazon India will further our mission of offering employment opportunities to veterans, their spouses, and war widows. These individuals bring resilience and diverse skills to the workforce, and this collaboration will pave the way for their financial independence and professional growth.”
Currently, hundreds of ex-servicemen are already part of Amazon India’s workforce, supported by mentorship networks like Warriors at Amazon. The company also prepares them through interview training and career development programs tailored to military families.
This MoU underscores Amazon’s broader vision of fostering an inclusive workplace, extending opportunities to women, persons with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ communities, veterans, and their families across its extensive business network in India.
