Lucknow, India – Actor Avinash Tiwary, fresh off wrapping his upcoming theatrical release “Ginny Weds Sunny 2” – his first solo commercial venture since “Laila Majnu” – is pondering his journey despite a recent string of critically acclaimed performances. Over the past two years, Tiwary has garnered significant praise for his diverse roles in projects like “Bambai Meri Jaan,” “Khakee: The Bihar Chapter,” and the comedic caper “Madgaon Express.” Yet, a sense of something still missing lingers for the promising actor.

“Why aren’t the projects making a big splash, I don’t get it,” Tiwary muses. “Every project that I do has been loved by almost everyone who has seen them, but why so few people have seen them is something I don’t understand. It feels like every work I do doesn’t get its due at that point, and then it happens later. Unless there’s a buzz in Mumbai, people don’t even realize something has happened.”

Shedding the OTT Image and Embracing Theatre

Tiwary is candid about his desire to move beyond the “OTT actor” tag, a label he feels was largely a result of the pandemic. “The OTT actor tag only happened because there was Covid, but I was looking to do theatricals,” he explains. “Last year, I was doing a couple of films, which didn’t take off. That’s when I realized I need to take control of things to create a distinction that says I’m not just only on one platform.”

He firmly believes that theatre will become a significant part of his filmography. “If I want to have any relevance as an actor in this country, I need to be in the theatres,” Tiwary asserts. While acknowledging the global reach that OTT platforms offer, he emphasizes the unique connection forged with a domestic audience through cinematic releases. “OTT is an opportunity to reach out to the audiences around the world. But theatres are a way to ensure that I have connectivity and relatability with the people in India.”

A Bold Approach to Roles

In an industry where many actors opt for safer, more predictable roles, Avinash Tiwary consistently seeks out characters and genres that challenge him. After captivating audiences with his honest portrayal in “The Mehta Boys,” Tiwary is now set to bring a fresh wave of romance with the lighthearted entertainer “Ginny Weds Sunny 2,” where he will share the screen with Medha Shankr. With filming now complete, audiences are eagerly anticipating his return to the big screen, eager to see him command his space once more.
