Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, celebrated its 50th Foundation Day with the inauguration of its 50th Sports Meet at the university’s Sports Complex. The event was organized under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor and was inaugurated by Professor S.S. Bedi, Secretary of the Sports Council, and Sanjeev Kumar, Registrar.
Professor Bedi emphasized that such sports events would be organized two to three times a year to encourage the participation of all employees, faculty members, and students. He urged everyone to actively take part in the competitions. Sanjeev Kumar suggested that in addition to university-level sports events, similar competitions should also be conducted at the state level.
The event commenced with the introduction of players from both the Teaching and Non-Teaching staff teams, followed by a balloon-releasing ceremony. In the opening cricket match, Dr. Atul Katiyar, captain of the Teaching Staff team, won the toss and invited Non-Teaching Staff captain Arvind Kumar’s team to bat first. The Non-Teaching Staff set a formidable target of 232 runs, with notable performances from Nitin Dev (70 runs) and Mr. Hitesh Tikkha (40 runs). In the bowling department, Dr. Sandeep Kumar took three wickets, while Dr. Yatendra Kumar claimed two wickets, and others contributed with one wicket each. Dr. Ajit Singh’s fielding was commendable.
Chasing the target, the Teaching Staff team managed to score 170 runs, with Mr. Aditya Gawar leading the effort with 67 runs. The highlight of the match was the thrilling final over, where Registrar Mr. Sanjeev Kumar bowled to Professor S.S. Bedi. Ultimately, the Non-Teaching Staff team emerged victorious.
Apart from cricket, traditional games were also held. The Non-Teaching Staff won the Gilli-Danda event, while the Teaching Staff claimed victory in the Marbles game. The Sampolia match ended in a draw.
The Vice-Chancellor extended his best wishes for the successful organization of the event and encouraged participants for the remaining three days of the Sports Meet. Commentary for the matches was provided by Mr. Zaheer Ahmed and Mr. Dharmendra Sharma.
