Lucknow: In an effort to ensure that no pilgrim gets separated from their family during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, leading telecom provider VI has launched the ‘VI Number Rakshak’ initiative. This new initiative aims to keep pilgrims connected by offering them personalized Rudraksha and Tulsi bracelet bands with emergency contact numbers.
Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions of devotees, has often seen thousands of pilgrims get lost in the massive crowds. During the 2013 Allahabad (now Prayagraj) Kumbh, around 70,000 people were separated from their families. This year, similar challenges have already emerged, with reports of over 250 people going missing within the first few hours. With a large number of devotees expected to gather at the Triveni Sangam for the ‘Shani Snan’ in February, the risk of separation is a significant concern for many pilgrims.
Recognizing this, VI has set up booths at the Swami Ramanand Acharya Camp Akhada, where devotees can receive a complimentary Rudraksha and Tulsi bracelet featuring their family or companion’s emergency contact number. This will make it easier for pilgrims to reconnect with their loved ones, even if they do not have access to mobile phones or internet connectivity.
Avenish Khosla, Chief Marketing Officer, VI, stated, “The VI Number Rakshak initiative reflects how simple solutions can play a key role in uniting people. We are not just a telecom service provider; we act as partners for people. This initiative shows our commitment to ensuring people remain connected, even when there’s no network access.”
This effort is part of VI’s broader ‘Bano Kisi Ke Hum’ campaign, which focuses on promoting the importance of connections and keeping people together. By launching the ‘VI Number Rakshak’ initiative, VI aims to enhance public safety and welfare during the Kumbh Mela.
To further improve connectivity for its users, VI has also installed 30 new sites, covering the Triveni Sangam area and surrounding regions, with 40 macro and high-power small cells. Additionally, a 32-kilometer fiber network has been deployed in crowded areas to ensure last-mile connectivity. This will allow users to enjoy crystal-clear voice calls, seamless video streaming, and high-speed data transfer.
VI’s initiatives during the Maha Kumbh Mela are a testament to the company’s commitment to enhancing public safety and ensuring seamless connectivity for all pilgrims attending this grand spiritual event.
