Lucknow: Voting is going on from 7 am on eight seats of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in UP. A total of 36.96 percent voting has taken place till 1 pm.
According to the information received from the Chief Electoral Officer office, till 1 pm, 42.32 percent voting took place in Saharanpur, 37.92 in Kairana, 34.51 in Muzaffarnagar, 36.08 in Bijnor, 38.28 in Nagina, 35.25 in Moradabad, 32.86 in Rampur and 38.51 percent in Pilibhit.
A total of 36.96 percent voting has taken place till 1 pm on all eight seats.
Prominent candidates in the first phase include BJP’s Jitin Prasad from Pilibhit, Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan from Muzaffarnagar and Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad from Nagina.
A triangular electoral contest is expected on these seats between the ruling BJP-led NDA, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
In this election, BJP has joined hands with Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). SP has formed an alliance with Congress, while BSP is in the electoral fray alone.
