UPMRC Receives 2 Urban Infra Awards 2024 for Outstanding Contribution in Developing Sustainable and Smart MRTS Projects
Lucknow: At the “Urban Infra Business Summit and Awards 2024,” the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) was honored with two prestigious awards for its significant achievements. Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of UPMRC, was awarded the “Urban Infra Metro Man of the Year 2024.” The award ceremony took place on October 16, 2024 in New Delhi.
UPMRC also received the esteemed award for “Urban Infra Sustainable Mobility Promoter of the Year,” recognizing its efforts in promoting environmental friendly transport under green initiatives.
Notably, UPMRC is the first organization in the state to participate in the Energy Exchange Program, achieving electricity savings of ₹4 crore over the past 1.5 years. Additionally, UPMRC has constructed a massive green corridor spanning 1.1 lakh square meters.
Moreover, the Managing Director was recognized for the rapid construction of the Kanpur and Agra metro projects. UPMRC commenced passenger services on the 9 km primary corridor between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel on December 28, 2021, in a record time of just 2 years and 1.5 months. Similarly, the 6 km underground tunnel stretch was completed in just 11 months, achieving the distinction of being the fastest constructed underground metro section in India and the world. Under the vision and leadership of Sushil Kumar, construction work on the 32.04 km long two corridors in Kanpur and the 29.4 km long corridors in Agra is progressing rapidly.
On this occasion, MD Sushil Kumar expressed his happiness, stating that this award symbolizes the dedication and commitment of UPMRC’s employees. He emphasized that construction on the balance sections in Kanpur and Agra is accelerating at a swift pace, and the public will soon benefit from metro services across the complete corridors. The construction of both corridors will reduce traffic on the roads and significantly decrease carbon footprint in these cities. UPMRC has taken several important steps toward environmental conservation, and it has planned to implement various measures in this direction.
