Lucknow: Bollywood stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta touched down in Lucknow this week as part of the promotional run for their much-anticipated film “Batwara 1947.” The star cast spent the visit taking part in various promotional events across the city.
During their time there, the duo paid a courtesy visit to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence. Sunny Deol’s son and actor Karan Deol was also present at the meeting.
Following the visit, both the Chief Minister and Sunny Deol took to social media to share photos from the occasion, with each expressing warmth and good wishes toward the other. Sunny Deol posted the pictures on his official Instagram account, writing that meeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his stay in Lucknow had been a genuinely pleasant experience, adding that their conversation was warm and positive.
CM Yogi Adityanath also shared photos from the meeting on his official X handle, noting that he had a courtesy meeting with noted actors Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta at his government residence in Lucknow.
A Story of Partition, Loss, and Human Resilience
Set against the backdrop of the 1947 India-Pakistan Partition, “Batwara 1947” follows a family whose lives are torn apart by violence, displacement, and sudden upheaval. At its core, the film is less about the political chaos of the era and more about what people held onto in spite of it — compassion, courage, and human connection amid widespread fear and hatred.
The film is reportedly based on Asghar Wajahat’s well-known play “Jis Lahore Nahi Vekhya, O Jamyai Nai,” and portrays the struggles families faced during Partition, along with the quiet, unshakeable trust many held onto in one another during that turbulent period.
The film stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, and Abhimanyu Singh in lead roles, and is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The music has been composed by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. “Batwara 1947” is set to release in theatres worldwide on August 14.
