Lucknow: Thanks to Abdul Rehman’s hat-trick, Sports College organized the first Late Vijay Mitra Dwivedi (Chakai Dada) Sub Junior Hockey Competition. In the inaugural match, Vijay Mitra Dwivedi XI was defeated by 4-0. The match played between Jamuna Lal Sharma XI and Mohd. Shahid XI ended without any goal. None of the teams succeeded in scoring a goal.
The competition was inaugurated by Olympian Danish Mujtaba at Chandra Bhan Gupta Sports Ground. On this occasion, Olympian Sujeet Kumar along with other hockey players Imran Ul Haq, Rakesh Tandon, Mukul Lal Shah and Khurshid Ahmed were present.
In the match played between Sports College and Vijay Mitra Dwivedi XI, both the teams adopted an aggressive stance from the beginning. Sports College got the first success. In the first quarter, Abdul Rehman scored a brilliant field goal in the 9th minute by breaking through the defense line of Vijay Mitra XI and gave the team a 1-0 lead. At the same time, Vijay Mitra’s players lost control over their game. In the second quarter, no team was successful in scoring a goal.
In the third quarter, once again Abdul Rehman scored a goal by breaking the defense of the opposing team. The third quarter again ended goalless. In the fourth quarter, once again Abdul Rehman scored a goal in the 40th minute by dodging Vijay Mitra’s defense line and gave the team a 3-0 lead and completed his hat-trick. In the 41st minute, Divyanshu of Sports College scored a field goal and gave the team a 4-0 victory.
