Gonda: Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission member Ekta Singh chaired a public grievance hearing at the Circuit House in Gonda, emphasising that the prompt and fair resolution of complaints filed by women remains a top priority. She directed officials to handle cases of harassment and abuse with sensitivity and ensure that women are not forced to make repeated visits to government offices in search of justice.
Addressing officials during the hearing, Singh said that negligence in dealing with complaints concerning women would not be tolerated. She instructed departments to ensure time-bound and impartial disposal of every case while also making certain that eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of government welfare schemes for women.
A total of 16 complaints were received during the public hearing. Of these, five were resolved on the spot, while the remaining 11 cases were forwarded to the concerned departments for further action and necessary follow-up.
Earlier in the day, the State Women’s Commission member inspected an Anganwadi centre and a primary school in Jhanjhari block. She reviewed student attendance, nutrition, sanitation and educational arrangements, directing officials to maintain quality standards and ensure the effective implementation of child welfare programmes.
She also visited the Community Health Centre at Pandri Kripal, where she assessed healthcare services, maternity facilities and patient care arrangements. Stressing the importance of maternal and child healthcare, she directed health officials to ensure that beneficiaries receive quality medical services without any shortcomings.
As part of her visit, Singh inspected the women’s barracks and women’s cell at the district jail, reviewing the facilities and welfare measures available to women inmates.
Following the grievance hearing, she inaugurated the Kanya Janmotsav celebration at the Community Health Centre in Mujehna by joining a cake-cutting ceremony with a newborn girl child. Speaking on the occasion, she said that daughters are invaluable to families and society, and celebrating the birth of a girl child helps promote a positive social outlook towards gender equality.
During the event, baby care kits, towels and clothing were distributed to the families of 11 newborn girls.
The programme was attended by District Development Officer, Protection Officer Chandra Mohan Verma, Centre Manager Chetna Singh, District Mission Coordinator Shivendra Srivastava, Gender Specialist Jyotsna Singh, Raj Kumar Arya and other officials from the concerned departments.
