Berlin: Spain won the Euro 2024 title by defeating England 2-1 thanks to goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal in the title match played at Berlin’s Olympia stadion late on Sunday night. Spain won the title of European champion for a record fourth time. Spain remained undefeated in the 2024 edition of the tournament and won the prestigious trophy. Meanwhile, after losing the final twice, England’s wait to win the Euro trophy has increased further.
Exciting match between the two teams
Both teams played with strategy in the first 15 minutes of the match. However, Spain maintained more possession of the ball and tried to create two big chances. Meanwhile, England came close to scoring the opening goal just once. The Three Lions struggled in the opening minutes of the match; they failed to get out of their own half as the Spaniards took full control of the midfield, giving the England attacker no chance to trouble Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Spain captain Alvaro Morata found space in the England box a few minutes before the first half whistle, but before he could take a shot, English defender Laporte blocked the Spanish player. The first half remained goalless, but Spain continued to dominate the Three Lions, having 69 percent ball possession. Meanwhile, Harry Kane’s side had only 31 percent ball possession.
Spain won 2-1
The second half will be crucial for both teams, as no one wants the match to go to a penalty shootout. Spain started the second half with a change, with Luis de la Fuente replacing Rodri after he was injured and Martin Zubimendi replacing him.
Nico Williams scored in the 47th minute to give Spain a 1-0 lead. Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the 86th minute to give Spain a 2-1 lead in the match and this score proved to be decisive. With this, Spain won a record fourth Euro Cup (Euro Cup 2024) title.
