SGPGIMS Surgeons Successfully Remove 5-Kg Uterine Fibroid While Preserving Patient’s Fertility

Lucknow: Doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) have successfully performed a complex surgery to remove a massive 5-kilogram uterine fibroid from a 30-year-old woman while preserving her reproductive organs and fertility.

The patient had reported to the Gynecology Outpatient Department with complaints of a large abdominal swelling that had spread across her entire abdomen. Medical evaluation revealed a giant uterine fibroid measuring 25 × 17 cm along with a 7-cm ovarian cyst.

Following detailed assessment, a team of specialists carried out a successful surgical procedure to remove both the enormous fibroid and the ovarian cyst. Despite the complexity of the case, surgeons were able to preserve the patient’s uterus, both fallopian tubes, and both ovaries, ensuring that her future reproductive potential remained intact.

According to hospital officials, the patient is recovering well after surgery and her post-operative condition is satisfactory.

Surgical Team

The operation was performed by a multidisciplinary team comprising Dr. Anju Rani, Dr. Nidhi, Dr. Monica, and Dr. Ritesh.

Anesthesia support was provided by Dr. Ayushi.

The nursing team included Jyoti, Pragati, Sonali, and Vandana, who assisted throughout the procedure and post-operative care.
