Mumbai: Television actor Rashami Desai has returned to fiction television with Star Plus’ new show Sayoni, where she plays the character of Maya. Speaking at the show’s premiere event in Mumbai on September 23, Desai opened up about her new role and her enduring connection with television.
Asked what prompted her to join the show, Desai responded with her trademark humour, saying, “My astrologer told me to take up this show because my popularity is going to triple.”
Describing Maya, Desai said the character is a practical woman who views the world from a different perspective. Maya believes there should be no distinction between men and women. According to Desai, viewers may sometimes get angry with Maya, while at other times they may find merit in what she says.
Reflecting on her career, Desai said television has played the role of a mother in her life. She recalled portraying popular characters such as Tapasya and Shorvari before taking on Maya.
Desai added that audiences have consistently shown her affection and that every new character comes with expectations. However, she believes remaining grounded is essential.
