Lucknow: Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh visited flood-affected areas of Faizullaganj on Thursday and distributed relief materials to affected families. He assured residents of continued assistance and announced that construction of an embankment from IIM Road to Faizullaganj, estimated to cost ₹182 crore, would begin soon.
Addressing residents at a programme held at Allunagar Diguria Chowk on IIM Road, Singh said he had been in regular contact with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the district administration since flooding affected the area. He said he had been receiving daily updates on the situation and had discussed the needs of affected families with the authorities.

Singh assured residents that funds would not be a constraint in addressing Faizullaganj’s recurring flood problem. He stressed that a permanent solution would require systematic planning and sustained efforts alongside immediate relief measures.
The Defence Minister announced that 10,000 additional ration kits would be provided to flood-affected families and delivered door-to-door. Another 10,000 relief packets would also be made available for Faizullaganj with support from the Akshaya Patra Foundation, ensuring that assistance reaches families in need.
He said the district administration was alert to the possibility of post-flood diseases and was taking necessary preventive measures. Local representatives, officials and party workers were also coordinating relief efforts.

“This is not the time for speeches, but to stand with you in this difficult hour,” Singh told residents, assuring them that they would not be left alone. He described assistance to constituents as a responsibility rather than a favour.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, MLAs Dr Neeraj Bora, Yogesh Shukla and OP Srivastava, MLC Pawan Singh Chauhan, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal and other public representatives, officials and Akshaya Patra Foundation representatives attended the programme.
Singh reiterated that the government would continue providing immediate relief while pursuing long-term measures to address flooding in Faizullaganj.
