Modinagar, Ghaziabad: Opposition has intensified against the alleged construction of a dirty water well near the ancient and historic Mata Mahamaya Devi Temple in Sikri Khurd village of Modinagar. Social activist and advocate Gajendra Singh Gurjar has written to the District Magistrate demanding an immediate investigation into the matter.
In his complaint, Gurjar accused officials of the tehsil administration, Modinagar Municipality, illegal colonisers, contractors and some public representatives of conspiring to construct a dirty water drain and well near the temple premises, allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of devotees and villagers.
He claimed that the drainage project was initially planned around 500 metres away near Krishna Kunj, but the construction site was later shifted closer to the temple and cremation ground area. Gurjar alleged that the move contradicts earlier plans for the beautification of the temple and instead threatens to surround the religious site with filth and foul smell.

He demanded that the construction work be stopped until a fair inquiry is completed and strict action be taken against those found responsible.
