Walkathon, vintage car rally, biker ride and felicitation of breast cancer survivors to highlight early detection, timely treatment and community participation
Lucknow | Under the guidance of Senior Professor and Head of Endocrine and Breast Surgery at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Dr. Gaurav Agarwal, the SGPGI Breast Health Program will organise PINKWAVE 2026, a breast cancer awareness initiative, on October 4 in Lucknow, in collaboration with the Association of 41 Clubs, Area-9, Lucknow Golf Club and several social, philanthropic and educational organisations.

Being organised during October, observed globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, PINKWAVE 2026 aims to strengthen public awareness about breast cancer, encourage early detection and highlight the importance of timely medical consultation and appropriate care. The initiative seeks to take the conversation beyond hospitals and healthcare institutions by bringing together citizens, medical professionals, community organisations and families on a common platform.
Breast cancer remains an important public health concern, making awareness, timely diagnosis and access to appropriate healthcare essential. Through public participation and community engagement, PINKWAVE 2026 aims to encourage people to become more attentive to breast health, recognise potential warning signs and seek professional medical advice whenever required.
A community movement for breast health
Conceived as a community-oriented initiative, PINKWAVE 2026 seeks to make breast cancer awareness an accessible and sustained public conversation. The programme will bring together members of the medical fraternity, healthcare professionals, institutions, community representatives, families and citizens to collectively support the cause.
The event will feature a series of activities designed to engage people from different walks of life and communicate the importance of breast health in an interactive and approachable manner. The principal attractions will include a breast cancer awareness walkathon, a vintage car rally, a Super-PINK-Biker ride for breast cancer awareness and a felicitation ceremony recognising breast cancer survivors, referred to as Breast Cancer Conquerors.
These activities aim to extend the message of awareness across the city, using public participation to encourage meaningful conversations about early detection, timely intervention and the importance of emotional and social support for those affected by the disease.
Focus on early detection and timely action
A central objective of PINKWAVE 2026 is to highlight the importance of being attentive to breast health and seeking qualified medical advice without unnecessary delay. The initiative will focus on awareness of potential warning signs, appropriate screening and timely consultation with healthcare professionals.
The programme seeks to encourage individuals to make informed decisions about their health and understand that any unusual breast-related changes warrant professional evaluation. Awareness and screening requirements may vary according to age, individual risk factors and medical history, making guidance from qualified healthcare professionals important.
By taking these conversations into public spaces, the SGPGI Breast Health Program aims to reduce hesitation in seeking medical advice and promote a culture in which breast health is treated as an integral part of overall well-being.
The organisers emphasise that sustained community participation is essential for effective awareness. Initiatives such as PINKWAVE 2026 provide opportunities for people to engage with important health issues beyond conventional clinical settings and encourage families and communities to play an active role in promoting informed healthcare practices.

Celebrating courage: Honouring breast cancer conquerors
The Breast Cancer Conquerors Felicitation will be one of the key highlights of PINKWAVE 2026. The ceremony will recognise individuals who have faced breast cancer and completed their treatment journey, acknowledging their courage, resilience and perseverance.
The recognition is intended to provide encouragement to those currently undergoing treatment, as well as families supporting loved ones through the challenges associated with the disease. By bringing survivors into the public spotlight, the initiative seeks to promote empathy, understanding and open discussions about breast cancer.
The felicitation will also underline the importance of creating an environment in which individuals can discuss their experiences without stigma or hesitation. Recognising survivors and their journeys can help foster a supportive community while reinforcing the message that people affected by breast cancer deserve dignity, compassion and continued care.
Bringing Lucknow together for a common cause
PINKWAVE 2026 will serve as a platform for collaboration among healthcare institutions, community organisations, educational establishments, social groups and citizens. The partnership with the Association of 41 Clubs, Area-9, Lucknow Golf Club and other organisations reflects the role of collective participation in taking health awareness messages to a wider audience.
The walkathon, vintage car rally and Super-PINK-Biker ride are intended to generate public engagement and visibility for breast cancer awareness. These activities will provide opportunities for citizens across age groups and professional backgrounds to participate in a shared initiative and demonstrate solidarity with individuals affected by the disease.
The programme also seeks to highlight the role of families and communities in encouraging timely medical consultation, offering emotional support and helping individuals navigate their healthcare journeys. Breast cancer awareness, the organisers believe, is a shared responsibility that extends beyond patients and medical professionals.
Beyond a one-day initiative
PINKWAVE 2026 is envisioned not merely as a one-day event but as an opportunity to strengthen the continuing conversation around breast health, early detection and timely medical intervention. Through public engagement and awareness activities, the initiative aims to encourage individuals to prioritise their health and seek professional guidance whenever concerns arise.
The SGPGI Breast Health Program has called upon citizens, healthcare professionals, institutions, community organisations and the media to participate in the initiative and amplify its message across Lucknow.
With the theme of raising awareness, encouraging early detection and celebrating courage, PINKWAVE 2026 seeks to bring the city together in support of breast cancer awareness, while recognising the resilience of survivors and promoting a more informed and supportive community.
