Gorakhpur: In order to spread greenery as a better effort towards environmental protection, the Prime Minister has launched a campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ across the country. To make this campaign successful, a massive plantation program is being run on the Northeast Railway.
Plantation is done on the Northeast Railway as a continuous process. Under this, lakhs of saplings are being planted on railway land in the headquarters, divisions and other railway premises. In this sequence, in the year 2024-25, a total of 1.58 lakh saplings have been planted on this railway till the month of August, 2024.
The plantation program on the Northeast Railway is being done in a planned manner, in the year 2023-24, 2.05 lakh saplings were planted on Varanasi Division, 2.45 lakh on Lucknow Division and 1.80 lakh on Izzatnagar Division. Thus, a total of 6.30 lakh saplings were planted on the Northeast Railway.
Railway employees are being made aware to plant ‘one tree in the name of mother’. General Manager, Northeast Railway, Saumya Mathur planted ‘one tree in the name of mother’ in Gorakhpur station premises on 17 September 2024 under the Swachhata Hi Seva program and also inspired other railway employees to plant ‘one tree in the name of mother’.
On this occasion, senior officers including Additional General Manager Dinesh Kumar Singh also planted ‘one tree in the name of mother’. Under the Swachhata Hi Seva being celebrated from 14 September to 01 October 2024, railway officers and employees are planting ‘one tree in the name of mother’ every day.
Under the ‘one tree in the name of mother’ campaign, 1.58 lakh saplings were planted on Northeast Railway till August 2024 in the year 2024-25, which is a great effort to deal with challenges like environmental protection and climate change. Plantation is a part of the functioning of the railways.
Every year, whenever there is an inspection or any program on the railways, tree plantation is included as an integral part of it. As an innovation for better maintenance of the plants, the name plate of the officer and employee who planted the plant is also put along with the plant. The work of planting trees is also going on continuously on vacant land in all the three divisions of Northeast Railway. Apart from this, the railway employees living in the government houses of the railways also plant trees in their residential premises and nurture them.
