Lucknow: The nomination process for the 2026 biennial elections to the Lucknow Graduate and Lucknow Teacher constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council continued at the office of the Divisional Commissioner on Wednesday, but no candidate filed a nomination on the second day. The nomination process for the Legislative Council elections began on September 29 and will continue until October 6.
According to Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Vijay Vishwas Pant, a total of 15 nomination papers were distributed on Wednesday. Seven prospective candidates collected nomination papers for the Teacher constituency, while eight obtained papers for the Graduate constituency.
For the Teacher constituency, the nomination papers were taken by Deen Dayal Gupta of Aharoula in Azamgarh, Sohan Lal of Sitapur Road in Lucknow, BJP candidate Umesh Dwivedi of Lalganj Ajhara in Pratapgarh, and independent candidates Shravan Kumar Tripathi, Jitendra Nath Mishra, Ashish Kumar Singh and Dhirendra Singh.
For the Graduate constituency, those obtaining nomination papers were independent candidates Siddharth Prakash, Dr Smita Mishra, Sandeep Narayan, Ram Chandra Tiwari, Mohammad Nazaruddin, Neelam Saroj, Vinod Kumar Verma and Mohammad Afaq Usmani.
The Returning Officer said that while 15 nomination papers were distributed during the day, the number of nominations actually filed remained zero.
The elections to the Lucknow Graduate and Teacher constituencies are part of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council polls covering 11 Graduate and Teacher seats. Polling is scheduled for October 23, with counting set for October 27.
