Manchester: Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has labeled rumors of his potential departure from Old Trafford as “ridiculous.” The winger took to Instagram on the first day of the January transfer window to categorically deny any plans to leave the club, quashing weeks of speculation.
“There have been a lot of false stories written over the past few weeks, but guys, this is getting ridiculous – I’ve never met with any agency and don’t have any plans to,” Rashford wrote.
Struggles Under Amorim
Rashford has long been a key figure for Manchester United, regularly starting under previous managers. However, since Ruben Amorim’s appointment and a shift in the team’s playing style, Rashford has struggled to cement his place in the starting lineup.
The winger’s exclusion was notably evident in the build-up to the December 15 Manchester derby, where Amorim left Rashford out of the squad entirely. Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim defended his decision:
“Yes, I made the choice. He’s making an effort to play, but it’s all up to me. I’ve had several conversations with players both one-on-one and during practice. I’m doing this the only way I know how to do it. I lose myself if I don’t, and I don’t want to lose myself. I know what I’m doing.”
Rumors of a Transfer
The rumors about Rashford’s potential transfer began to circulate after he hinted at being “prepared for a new challenge” during an interview last month. His comments, combined with his reduced role in the squad, fueled speculation of a January move.
Despite this, Amorim reassured fans and teammates that Rashford’s exclusion would not affect the squad’s overall dynamics. “The greatest they can be, just like any other player. Push everyone ahead right now if you have great skill, performance, and responsibility. Because they have been here for a long time, some of the men have a lot of responsibility,” Amorim stated.
