Ranchi: A severe train accident took place near the NTPC gate in Barhait, Sahibganj district, early this morning, resulting in the death of two people and injuries to four others. Fire brigade personnel Ravi reported that the incident occurred at around 3:30 AM when a stationary freight train was hit by another incoming freight train. The collision caused a massive fire in the engine and coal-laden bogies, and efforts to douse the flames are still underway. Additionally, two engines derailed, and one engine was completely damaged.
Four People Injured
According to the fire brigade, out of the seven crew members onboard the engines, two lost their lives, while four sustained injuries. One crew member remains trapped inside the wreckage, and rescue operations are ongoing to extract him. The injured have been taken to Barhait Sadar Hospital, where some are reported to be in critical condition.
Upon receiving information about the accident, railway officials and Barhait police reached the spot and have begun their investigation. Notably, the NTPC rail tracks have witnessed previous accidents. In a past incident, miscreants detonated explosives on the tracks, causing a coal-laden train to derail.
