Major Success for Special Task Force: Smuggler Arrested with a Huge Cache of Illegal Liquor

Lucknow: The Special Task Force (STF) achieved a major breakthrough on March 27, 2025, by arresting a key member of an inter-state illegal liquor smuggling racket. The arrested accused has been identified as Kapil Verma Karwal, a resident of Chandigarh.

  • 459 cartons of illegal English liquor of various brands
  • Cash amounting to ₹10,230/-
  • 2 mobile phones
  • 1 driving license
  • 1 ATM card
  • 1 Aadhaar card
  • 1 Tata truck (Number: PB-65 AH-3597)
  • 700 sacks of wall putty

STF’s Operation:

The STF had been receiving information about illegal liquor smuggling from various districts of Uttar Pradesh to Bihar. Acting on this intelligence, the STF Lucknow team apprehended Kapil Verma from the Agra-Lucknow Expressway toll plaza under the jurisdiction of Kakori police station.

Key Revelations from Interrogation:

During interrogation, Kapil Verma disclosed that he is a member of a gang engaged in smuggling liquor into Bihar, where alcohol is banned. The gang sources liquor from Punjab and Haryana and supplies it across various districts in Bihar. In this instance, a Chandigarh-based associate named Rahul had loaded the liquor consignment, and the recipient details were to be provided upon reaching Samastipur. Kapil Verma further revealed that he earned ₹50,000 per trip for this smuggling operation.

It is noteworthy that a case has been registered against the accused at Kakori Police Station. Further legal proceedings will be carried out by the local police.
