Lucknow: The Lucknow Police have arrested the main accused in an alleged attempt-to-murder case in the Kaiserbagh police station area, recovering a .32-bore revolver, ammunition and the scooter allegedly used in the crime.
The arrest was made by a police team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kaiserbagh) Navratna Gautam. According to police, the accused, identified as Mohammad Ilyas alias Attu, was apprehended near Parivartan Chowk while allegedly on his way to meet his lawyer and surrender before a court.
The case stems from a complaint lodged on July 8, 2026, by Afreen Hussain, a resident of Talab Gagni, Shukla Model House. She alleged that her husband, Fazil Hussain, was shot by her brother-in-law after the accused entered their residence and opened fire with a revolver. Police said Fazil Hussain sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. An FIR was subsequently registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police received information that the accused was travelling on a white scooter to consult his lawyer before surrendering in court. Acting on the tip-off, the Kaiserbagh police laid a trap and arrested him near Parivartan Chowk.
According to police, the accused allegedly confessed during questioning that he had been upset because his wife had been living at her parental home with their children for an extended period and believed his brother-in-law had supported her decision. Investigators claim he purchased a factory-made .32-bore revolver for around ₹70,000 and, in retaliation, went to his in-laws’ house at around 3 a.m. on July 8, where he allegedly fired multiple rounds as soon as the door was opened before fleeing the scene.

Police said they recovered a factory-made .32-bore revolver, two spent cartridge cases, four live cartridges, and the scooter (UP32 QP 4229) allegedly used in the offence from the accused’s possession.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Station House Officer Anjani Kumar Mishra, with Sub-Inspectors Ranjit Singh, Arvind Kumar, Prashant Kumar, Pawan Maurya, Surveillance Team Sub-Inspector Ankit Kumar, and other police personnel.
The accused has been produced before the court, and further legal proceedings are underway.
