Lucknow: To prevent black money in elections, intelligence agencies have been instructed to keep strict vigil at all airports. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that on the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Investigation Directorate of the Income Tax Department has made extensive arrangements to stop the use of black money in 2024 elections.
Air Intelligence Units (AIU) are working at all the airports of Uttar Pradesh state as well as airports with commercial flights coming from other states. These units are keeping a strict vigil on the movement of cash and other valuables by air.
AIUs (Air Intelligence Units) have been established at airports through the Income Tax Department. Reportedly AIU is working permanently in Lucknow and Varanasi. AIU is temporarily working in Ayodhya, Bareilly, Moradabad, Shravasti, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Ghaziabad (Hindon), Agra, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Azamgarh and Prayagraj. Apart from this, QRTs deployed in each district have also been instructed to monitor temporary airstrips and helipads.
