Rome: Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav is set to make his debut at the prestigious Rome Diamond League on June 4, where he will compete against some of the world’s top athletes in the men’s javelin event.
The 26-year-old Indian star will return to international action for the first time since his impressive fourth-place finish at the 2025 World Championships. His performance at the global event had established him as one of India’s emerging talents in athletics.
Sachin will be part of an elite eight-member field featuring several internationally acclaimed throwers, including former world champion Anderson Peters, Germany’s Julian Weber and Thomas Röhler, Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, American athlete Curtis Thompson, Poland’s Dawid Wegner, and Sri Lankan thrower Rumesh Pathirage.

Among the competitors, Rumesh Pathirage currently leads the world season rankings with a throw of 89.37 metres achieved at a domestic event in March. He followed it up with another impressive effort of 89.28 metres at the Kip Keino Classic held in Nairobi last month, reaffirming his strong form heading into the Diamond League meet.
Meanwhile, Sachin Yadav will look to continue his rise on the international circuit after recording a personal best throw of 86.27 metres during the World Championships in Tokyo last year. His participation in Rome is expected to provide valuable exposure ahead of upcoming major international competitions and strengthen India’s presence in global athletics.
