India Welcomes Israel-Hamas Ceasefire and Prisoner Exchange Deal

New Delhi: India has praised the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange arrangement between Israel and Hamas, emphasizing its potential to ensure humanitarian aid flows safely and continuously into Gaza. The Ministry of External Affairs reaffirmed India’s consistent call for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the resumption of dialogue and diplomacy.

Mediated by the US, Qatar, and Egypt, the truce marks a significant diplomatic milestone. As part of the agreement, 33 Israeli captives will be released by Hamas, with women, children, the elderly, and the ill prioritized. In exchange, Israel will release Palestinian detainees. The ceasefire is set to begin on Sunday, subject to approval by Israel’s Supreme Court and Cabinet.

The conflict, ongoing since October 2023, has resulted in severe casualties, with over 1,200 killed in Hamas’ attacks on Israel and nearly 46,000 Palestinians reportedly killed in Israel’s response in Gaza.
