Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras has commenced admissions for its BS Degree Programmes for the 2026 academic session, with applications open until May 31, 2026. Designed to make high-quality IIT education accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds, the programme is open to all candidates who have completed Class 12, with no upper age limit.
The institute currently offers four programmes — BS in Data Science and Applications, BS in Electronic Systems, BS in Management and Data Science, and BS in Aeronautics and Space Technology. Students can pursue these programmes either as standalone degrees or alongside regular undergraduate courses such as BCom, BSc, BBA or engineering degrees.
The programmes are primarily conducted online, while examinations are held in-person at centres across India to maintain academic standards. Students also benefit from flexible learning options and multiple exit pathways, including certificate, diploma and degree levels.
Speaking about the initiative, Prof. Prathap Haridoss said the programmes provide flexibility while ensuring academic excellence and preparing students with future-ready skills in data, technology and interdisciplinary problem-solving. He added that the courses are designed to enhance career opportunities alongside other academic or professional pursuits.
Unlike traditional engineering programmes, admission does not require clearing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Candidates can gain entry through a qualifier process, making IIT Madras education more inclusive and accessible nationwide.
The curriculum has been developed in consultation with industry and academic experts, focusing on practical learning, emerging technologies and real-world applications. The institute also offers up to 75 percent fee support for eligible students from economically weaker backgrounds.
