Mumbai: Actress Hina Khan, known for her iconic roles in shows like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, has returned to the big screen with Grihalaxmi, a film that explores the complex journey of a woman torn between her personal aspirations and societal expectations. Hina portrays a character who navigates the challenges of power and survival, echoing the resilience and inner strength required to thrive against the odds.
In an interview, Hina shared her preference for portraying characters that are not idealized but instead, deeply human. She explained, “Characters who aren’t simply black or white appeal to me. Despite their imperfections and errors, they are fundamentally human. They are more sympathetic because of their flaws. Characters whose hardships mirror the complexity of human nature are what I want to depict.” Her words highlight her attraction to flawed, multi-dimensional roles, reinforcing her belief that imperfection is a source of strength and relatability.
Grihalaxmi is not just a career milestone for Hina but also marks her return to work after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in June 2024. The film, which also stars Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rahul Dev, and Chunky Pandey, delves into themes of survival and self-discovery, showcasing the protagonist’s fight to reclaim her power and identity.
Hina, who had been on a hiatus due to her cancer treatment, shared an emotional message on Instagram in July, revealing her diagnosis and her determination to fight. “My first work assignment after my diagnosis,” she wrote. “It may be difficult to live up to the rhetoric, particularly when dealing with the most difficult situations in life. Therefore, it’s OK to give yourself a break on terrible days because you deserve it. Even if there aren’t many pleasant days in your life, remember to enjoy them. These days are still significant. Embrace the difference, accept the change, and normalize it.”
Despite the challenges posed by her illness, Hina has remained strong and hopeful, dedicating herself to overcoming the disease. She also expressed gratitude to her fans, known as “Hinaholics,” for their unwavering support.
In a gesture of seeking divine blessings for the success of Grihalaxmi, Hina and the crew recently visited the Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai before embarking on the project.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Hina Khan’s journey is a testament to strength, resilience, and the courage to continue pursuing one’s dreams, even in the face of life’s most difficult challenges.
