Gonda: The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department conducted a raid at a sweet manufacturing unit near Behta, Jhilahi, in Gonda district as part of a special drive to ensure the quality and safety of food products.
Acting on intelligence inputs and under the directions of the Assistant Commissioner (Food)-II, Gonda, a team led by Chief Food Safety Officer Vinod Kumar inspected the premises. Food Safety Officers Manish Mal, Nand Kishore Yadav and Ankur Mishra were also part of the operation.
During the inspection, the team found chamcham sweets being manufactured at the unit. Suspecting that the product might not meet prescribed quality standards, officials collected a sample of the finished sweet. Samples of the ingredients used in its preparation and paneer were also collected, taking the total number of samples to three. These have been sent to a food laboratory for testing. Further action will be taken in accordance with the rules after the test reports are received.

The inspection also revealed food items that were found spoiled and unfit for consumption. These included 85 kg of spoiled chamcham, valued at approximately Rs 11,900, and 5 kg of paneer worth Rs 1,750. The vendor destroyed both items on the spot to prevent them from entering the public food supply.
The department reiterated that ensuring access to safe, hygienic and quality food is its priority. It said inspections and enforcement drives against food adulteration, substandard products and violations of food safety standards would continue. Food business operators have also been directed to comply with prescribed standards and remain accountable for consumer health.
