Fire Safety Week: Mock Drills and Awareness Campaigns Conducted Across Lucknow

Lucknow: As part of Fire Safety Week, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate and Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services conducted extensive fire safety awareness drives, training sessions, and mock drills across multiple institutions and public establishments in the city.

Under the direction of Director General Sujeet Pandey and the Chief Fire Officer, Lucknow, coordinated efforts were carried out by fire officials across zones to enhance preparedness and public awareness.

Mock Drill at Medanta Hospital

A major highlight of the campaign was a joint mock drill at Medanta Hospital in the PGI area. Fire officials, along with the hospital’s emergency response team, simulated rescue operations using advanced equipment such as hydraulic platforms and articulating water towers.

The drill assessed preparedness for emergency situations, with teams successfully evacuating “injured” individuals and demonstrating firefighting techniques. Doctors, nurses, and security personnel were trained on fire prevention, evacuation protocols, and the use of firefighting equipment like extinguishers, hydrant systems, and sprinklers.

Awareness Drives at Key Locations

Fire safety training sessions were also conducted at several prominent locations, including:

  • Gomti Nagar Railway Station
  • Myrah Hospital
  • Indian Oil Corporation Limited facilities
  • Emma Thompson School
  • Park Inn and Radisson Hotel
  • Phoenix United Mall
  • Piccadilly Hotel
  • Apollo Medics Hospital
  • A surface paint factory in the BKT area

At these locations, staff, students, and the general public were educated on fire hazards, preventive measures, and emergency response techniques. Live demonstrations of fire safety equipment were conducted, and participants were encouraged to operate the equipment themselves to build confidence.

Focus on Practical Training

Officials emphasized hands-on learning during the sessions. Participants were trained in the use of fire extinguishers through the widely recommended PASS technique:

  • Pull the safety pin
  • Aim at the base of the fire
  • Squeeze the lever
  • Sweep side to side

Detailed lectures also covered causes of fire, evacuation strategies, and crowd management during emergencies.

Key Safety Measures Highlighted

The campaign stressed essential fire safety practices, including:

  • Installation of smoke detectors in enclosed spaces
  • Keeping emergency exits clear at all times
  • Conducting regular mock drills
  • Avoiding electrical overloading to prevent short circuits

Message of Preparedness

Fire officials underscored that fire safety in high-rise buildings depends not only on the availability of equipment but also on the awareness and readiness of occupants. They urged citizens to remain vigilant and adopt the principle: “Fire safety is life safety.”

The large-scale campaign saw active participation from hospital staff, school authorities, mall and hotel management, security personnel, and members of the public, reinforcing Lucknow’s preparedness and commitment to safety.
