Experts to study smart sugarcane farming app

Lucknow: A delegation led by Joint Secretary, Government of India, along with Sugar Commissioners of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu will conduct a large-scale analytical study on 13th and 14th August regarding the study of integrated web-based transparent system of ‘Smart Sugarcane Farmer’ portal and ‘e-Ganna App’ developed by Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development Department of Uttar Pradesh and technical operation of the portal.

This information was given by Commissioner, Sugarcane and Sugar  Prabhu N. Singh. He informed that at present, the ‘Smart Sugarcane Development Project’ was successful by establishing coordination between 158 cooperative sugarcane development committees, 28 sugar mill committees and 121 sugar mills with the aim of providing smooth and uninterrupted supply of sugarcane to about 46 lakh sugarcane supplier members of the state.

Impressed by this success, the Government of India has organized a meeting and detailed program in the auditorium of Lal Bahadur Shastri Sugarcane Farmer Institute, Lucknow to adopt this model in other sugarcane producing states of the country.

Singh informed that in this programme, information will be shared about all the transparent arrangements related to the implementation of the process of online sugarcane survey, basic quota, basic speculation estimation, sugarcane calendaring, proportional transparent slip issuance, sugarcane supply and sugarcane price payment through the portal through the ‘Smart Sugarcane Development Project’.

The basic objectives of the Smart Sugarcane Development Project such as ease of work, uniformity and transparency along with effective monitoring, control and quick solution of farmers’ problems through the online portal will also be discussed. A question hour has also been organised at the end of the programme to resolve theoretical and practical processes and queries related to the implementation of the portal and e-sugarcane app.

In the programme, Ashwini Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Sugar), Government of India, Maharashtra State Sugar Commissioner  Kunal Khemnar, Karnataka State Commissioner, Sugarcane Development and Director Sugar  M.R. Ravikumar, Tamil Nadu State Additional Commissioner Sugar  B. Balamurugan will participate with their respective team members.
