Lucknow: The expansion of the weekly Brihaspati Bazaar onto Pratap Market Road in Aminabad has raised concerns among local residents and commuters over traffic movement, market management and security arrangements.
Residents said that shops associated with the weekly market were earlier not seen along this stretch of Pratap Market Road. They claim that the increasing number of temporary stalls is now affecting pedestrian and vehicular movement in the area.
Some local sources have alleged that the shops are being allowed to operate on the road because of police leniency. However, these allegations have not been independently verified. Questions have also been raised over how shops could be set up outside the designated market area if no permission or relaxation has been granted by the police.
Residents have further sought clarity on the verification of traders and visitors in the area. They said that with crowds increasing during the weekly market, proper monitoring and security arrangements are necessary.
Locals have urged the concerned authorities to inspect the market’s management, verify the designated vending area and review security arrangements. They have also sought clarification on responsibility for enforcement and verification to ensure that public movement and safety are not compromised.
