Congress keeps Gandhi cards close to its chest

Lucknow: The nomination process for the first phase of Lok Sabha has started. Election activity is also intense, but doubts remain about the Gandhi family contesting elections in Uttar Pradesh. On becoming a Rajya Sabha member, Sonia Gandhi has already announced that she will not contest elections from Rae Bareli. Neither Priyanka Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi has announced to contest elections from Amethi or Rae Bareli. On the other hand, BJP has not yet announced candidates for Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi to contest elections in Pilibhit and Sultanpur.

No announcement has been made yet for the son.

In the first phase, elections are to be held in Pilibhit. Maneka Gandhi was MP there for five consecutive terms from 1989 to 2004. For the first time in 2009, she left Pilibhit for her son Varun Gandhi. In 2014, Maneka again became MP from Pilibhit. After this, in 2019, she again left Pilibhit and came to Sultanpur for her son. Varun Gandhi has adopted a rebellious attitude since 2017. Due to this, voices are rising against him from local BJP workers as well as the state level.

BJP has not yet opened its cards from Pilibhit.  Now only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will take the final decision on his election. They will place their bets, only then Varun can get the ticket. Whereas Maneka Gandhi wants that her son’s ticket should be confirmed first, only then she will decide whether to contest the elections or not.

At the same time, there is doubt over Congress’s Rahul Gandhi contesting elections from Uttar Pradesh. Till now Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also not taken any decision. Supporters of Gandhi family are also in a state of confusion regarding this.
