Lucknow: Chinhat Police have arrested a 35-year-old man allegedly involved in stealing household articles and recovered a gas cylinder, two sarees and cash from his possession.
According to police, a case was registered on July 30 following a complaint by Vinay Kumar Tiwari, a resident of Om Sai Vishnu Vihar Colony in Kantipuram, Matiyari, alleging that a man identified as Dheeraj had stolen a gas cylinder, clothes and other articles from his house. The case was registered under Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Taking note of the incident, the Chinhat police station in-charge formed a team to trace the accused and recover the stolen property. The team examined CCTV footage from areas surrounding the crime scene and subsequently received information from a local informant about the suspect.
Police arrested Dheeraj near Shivpuri Chauraha. The accused, identified as Dheeraj, son of Raghunath, a resident of Jasmunda village in Barabanki district, was found in possession of one gas cylinder, two sarees and Rs 310 in cash.
Based on the recovered articles and other evidence collected during the investigation, Section 317(2) of the BNS was added to the case. Further legal proceedings are underway.
The arresting team comprised Sub-Inspector Dhirendra Rai, Head Constable Anand Singh and Constable Vinay Shukla of Chinhat Police Station. Police said the accused’s criminal history in other police stations and districts is also being verified.
