Washington: According to reports, Sophie Turner, who is best known for playing Sansa Stark in “Game of Thrones,” is in negotiations to play Lara Croft in the next “Tomb Raider” series on Amazon.
The British actress could play the famous part of the daring archaeologist in a live-action version of the popular computer game, which would be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, according to “The Hollywood Reporter.
”The series, which was approved earlier this year, will be written and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the gifted author and creator of “Fleabag.” The program will only be available to view on Amazon Prime Video.
In “Tomb Raider,” which chronicles Lara Croft’s travels to unearth ancient riches, the character has previously been portrayed in two significant motion pictures: Angelina Jolie’s in the early 2000s and Alicia Vikander’s in 2018.
Sophie Turner was one of several British actresses who tested for the role of Lara Croft. Other top candidates included Emma Mackey (‘Sex Education’), Lucy Boynton (‘Bohemian Rhapsody’), and Mackenzie Davis (‘Station Eleven’), the only American actress to make the shortlist. The casting process for the role has been extremely competitive.
Although there is yet no formal casting confirmation, sources say that the producers have been pleased with Turner’s connection with the role.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge expressed her enthusiasm for the project by stating, “I think my teenage self would blow up if I could tell her this was happening.” “Tomb Raider” has played a significant role in my life, and I feel very honored to be bringing it to the big screen with such ardent colleagues. I’m very excited to go on this journey with Lara Croft, bats and all.
Fans may anticipate a new interpretation of the “Tomb Raider” brand, which has enthralled viewers with its action-packed tales for years, even if exact narrative elements are still being kept under wraps.
The limited series “The Staircase,” the Netflix movie “Do Revenge,” and the ITV/CW miniseries “Joan” are just a few of the roles Sophie Turner has played since leaving “Game of Thrones.” She is also the lead in the forthcoming thriller “Haven” on Prime Video.
