Bareilly Youth Mohit Sharma to Receive National Youth Award at Parliament House for Outstanding Social Service

Bareilly – Mohit Sharma, a resident of Ashutosh City in Bareilly and a student of the Department of Plant Science at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, has been selected for the prestigious National Youth Award 2022–23 in the individual category. The award, conferred by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, recognizes exceptional contributions in social service by the nation’s youth. Sharma will be felicitated at the National Youth Parliament Festival to be held at the New Parliament Building in New Delhi, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Ministers, and other dignitaries.

Mohit Sharma is the only youth from Uttar Pradesh selected for this prestigious award for 2022–23. His decade-long commitment to social causes, through the National Service Scheme (NSS) and as a National Youth Volunteer with Nehru Yuva Kendra Bareilly, has made him a role model for many young Indians.

Social Initiatives and Achievements

Sharma’s social service portfolio is vast and includes contributions in blood donation, cleanliness drives, environmental protection, medical aid, voter awareness, road safety, women empowerment, literacy, and promotion of government welfare schemes.

Demonstrating a sense of responsibility at a young age, Sharma began donating blood at 18 and has since donated 16 times, organizing blood donation camps that have collected over 600 units for the district hospital. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while most people remained indoors, Mohit actively collaborated with the Chief Medical Officer to promote vaccination and health awareness across Bareilly.

As an advocate of environmental conservation and sanitation, Sharma has led numerous campaigns since his school days. For the past two years, he has served as the Cleanliness Brand Ambassador for Bareilly Municipal Corporation, striving to elevate the city’s national cleanliness ranking. His efforts have earned him multiple accolades from administrative authorities.

Honors and Recognition

In 2022, Sharma received the National Service Scheme Award from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was also awarded the State-Level Vivekananda Youth Award 2022–23 by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Furthermore, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department recognized his work in road safety awareness, and he has been honored by the Government of India at the district level for his sanitation initiatives. Numerous national organizations have also awarded him, making him a source of pride for Bareilly.

Educational Background

Mohit completed his schooling at Jai Narayan Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Bareilly, followed by a B.Sc. from Bareilly College. He holds a postgraduate degree in Botany and Master of Social Work (MSW) from Rohilkhand University. Alongside preparing for competitive exams, he remains deeply involved in social service, particularly advocating for blood and organ donation.

Family Support

Mohit is the youngest of four siblings, born to Suresh Sharma and Urmila Sharma. His elder brothers are a software engineer and a medical representative, while his elder sister is also a working professional. Sharma credits his success to the unwavering support of his family, who have constantly encouraged him to pursue his passion for social service without hesitation.

Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Rohilkhand University, praised Sharma and wished him a bright future.
