Lucknow: Bank employees across the state staged a demonstration and held a state-level sit-in in Lucknow demanding implementation of a five-day banking week and early resolution of their pending issues.
Employees wore black badges while reporting for work as part of the protest. Senior office-bearers of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) held a sit-in at the State Bank main branch, followed by a large demonstration by public sector bank employees at 5 pm.
UFBU district convenor Anil Srivastava said bank employees had been compelled to intensify their agitation due to what he described as continued neglect by the Central Government.
The state-level protest was led by senior bank leaders representing all seven constituent organisations of the forum, including Y.K. Arora, Dinesh Kumar Singh, Ajay Pandey, S.K. Sangtani, Laxman Singh, V.K. Mathur, Sandeep Singh, Ashok Agrawal and Sachin Kesharwani.
Several other union leaders and bank employees also participated in the sit-in and demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, the leaders said the agitation would continue until their demands were addressed and called for unity among bank employees.
Media in-charge Anil Tiwari said the forum had also announced a demonstration and rally at the State Bank main branch on September 25, followed by a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.
