Dhaka: The troubles of Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani do not seem to be decreasing. After the notice sent through the Eastern District Court in New York, USA, now Bangladesh has also made a big announcement regarding a project related to Adani Group. Bangladesh has recommended the appointment of an agency to investigate the power agreements signed by the government of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with various business groups including the Adani Group.
The interim government had constituted a review committee, which made this recommendation on Sunday. The committee was reviewing seven major energy and power projects. This also includes Adani (Godda) BIFPCL 1234.4 MW coal-based plant. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited. It includes a Chinese company and the rest are companies of Bangladeshi business groups.
Thermal plant set up in Godda for Bangladesh
Some time ago, the Adani Group wrote a letter to the Bangladesh government after not paying the dues of $ 800 million. Bangladesh’s Electricity Development Board had said that $150 million has been paid and the full payment is expected to be made soon.
Adani’s Godda thermal plant was set up specifically to supply electricity to Bangladesh. Recently, the Indian government has changed a law, which allows the company to sell the power of this plant in the domestic market.
America accused of giving bribe
The US Department of Justice accused the Adani Group of giving crores of rupees as bribe in the power deal in India. After this, Adani Group’s company Adani Renewable Energy Limited canceled its bond issue of $ 600 million. Immediately after the US allegations, Kenya also announced the cancellation of Adani Group’s airport project. This was announced by Kenya’s President William Ruto in a joint session of Parliament.
