‘Azaad’ Makes Television Debut with World Premiere on Zee Cinema

Mumbai: Historical action drama Azaad has made its world television premiere on Zee Cinema, bringing its story of courage, freedom and self-discovery to television audiences.

Set in India during the 1920s, Azaad follows Govind, a young stable worker whose life is transformed by his extraordinary bond with a spirited horse named Azaad. What begins as a dream of becoming a skilled horse rider gradually evolves into a larger purpose as Govind is drawn into the growing resistance against British rule. Blending action, emotion and patriotism, the film explores themes of resilience, sacrifice and the search for identity.

Ajay Devgn delivers a powerful performance as Vikram Singh, a fearless revolutionary leader whose courage and unwavering principles shape Govind’s journey. His commanding screen presence and emotional connection with Azaad form one of the film’s strongest pillars.

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Azaad marked the Bollywood debut of Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, who play Govind and Janki, respectively. Diana Penty also features in a key role, adding depth to the ensemble cast. The film was produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Pragya Kapoor under the banners of RSVP Movies and Guy In The Sky Pictures.

The film’s music also resonated with audiences, particularly the chartbuster “Uyi Amma”, which sparked thousands of social media reels and remained a popular talking point well beyond the film’s theatrical release.

At its core, Azaad is a coming-of-age tale about a young man discovering courage in the face of adversity while learning the true meaning of freedom. Through the unique bond between a boy and his horse, the film captures the spirit of India’s freedom movement while celebrating friendship, determination and the extraordinary courage of ordinary people.
