Mumbai: Anil Kapoor is all set to make his television game-show debut with the grand premiere of ‘India’s Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show’ on Star Plus tonight at 8 pm. The show brings together 100 contestants who will test their observation skills, common sense and understanding of everyday situations, with the ultimate aim of entering the top one per cent and winning up to ₹1 crore.
The excitement will extend beyond the studio as viewers will also be able to participate in real time through JioHotstar’s Play Along feature. Audiences can answer questions from home and stand a chance to win prizes including smartphones and smart TVs.
During the show, Kapoor took a trip down memory lane and recalled his younger days in Tilak Nagar, where he and his friends would often gatecrash weddings taking place in the neighbourhood.
“We lived in Tilak Nagar in Chembur, where there were always weddings happening. My friends and I would simply walk into them. Who doesn’t like free things?” Kapoor said, recalling how they would enter casually, greet people and head straight towards the refreshment counter.
Kapoor jokingly revealed that he would particularly look forward to drinking Gold Spot and Mangola, sometimes having 11 to 12 bottles at a wedding. Recalling the popular phrase, ‘Begani shaadi mein Abdullah deewana’, he quipped that it should instead be called, ‘Begani shaadi mein Anil Kapoor deewana.’
With Kapoor’s anecdotes adding a personal touch to the premiere, the show promises a mix of general awareness, observation, entertainment and audience participation.
