Mumbai: Actor Anil Kapoor became emotional while remembering his late friend and filmmaker Satish Kaushik on an upcoming episode of India’s Top 1% – The Anil Kapoor Show. A contestant named Gagan, whose appearance resembles Kaushik, brought back cherished memories of the actor and filmmaker, prompting Kapoor to share anecdotes about their close friendship.
During the conversation, Gagan revealed that people often compared his looks to Kaushik. He also recalled meeting the late actor while he was shooting for the television show Sumit Sambhal Lega in Delhi. His account brought back memories of the special bond Kapoor shared with Kaushik, which went far beyond their professional association.
Recalling their friendship, Kapoor said, “I cannot put into words the relationship I shared with him. Even if this shoot lasted 70 minutes, it would not be enough to tell all his stories. He used to tell me, ‘Your talent is incredible.’”
Kapoor revealed that he affectionately called Kaushik “Danny DeVito”. Both actors loved the film Twins and often imagined playing twin brothers together. Reflecting on their connection, Kapoor said, “If anyone could be my twin, it was Satish, because he knew everything about me—my anger, my happiness, everything. He knew me very well.”
The emotional conversation also had a light-hearted moment when Kapoor and Gagan recreated Kaushik’s memorable dialogue, “My name is Calendar, and I am going into the kitchen!” The line recalled the late actor’s distinctive comic style and brought smiles to the audience.
Impressed by Gagan’s tribute, Kapoor told him, “You have won my heart.” He then jokingly told the audience that if anyone had the money to make a film inspired by Twins, they should cast him and Gagan as twin brothers.
The conversation celebrated not only Kaushik’s contribution to entertainment but also a friendship built on affection, humour and a deep understanding of each other. Kapoor’s heartfelt recollections reflected how close his late friend remained to him.
