Lucknow: Third-seeded Ananya Jain won the singles title at the 25th RS Sagar Memorial All India Women’s Prize Money Tennis Tournament, while the third-seeded Uttar Pradesh pair of Shagun Kumari and Iram Zaidi emerged champions in the doubles event.
Organised by SDS Tennis Academy under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association, the tournament concluded with the singles and doubles finals at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility at La Martiniere College on Saturday.
In the singles final, Ananya Jain was leading fourth seed Shatakshi Chaudhary 3-3 when Shatakshi was forced to retire due to a muscle strain. Ananya was subsequently declared the winner.
Despite the injury, Shatakshi returned to the court later to contest the doubles final alongside Saumitra. The second-seeded Shatakshi-Saumitra combination faced third seeds Shagun Kumari and Iram Zaidi of Uttar Pradesh.
Shatakshi and Saumitra won the opening set 6-4, but Shagun and Iram staged a strong comeback to take the second set 6-1. The match then went into a deciding super tie-break, where the UP pair maintained their momentum and secured a 10-4 victory to claim the doubles title.
Tournament referees Amritanjay Kumar and Hind Gaurav Kushwaha presented the prizes to the winners.
