Lucknow: Fifth-seeded Uttar Pradesh player Aarav Bhaskar defeated fourth seed Virat Singh 6-3, 6-2 to enter the singles semifinals of the Brij Mohan Lal Tiwari Memorial AITA Championship Series Under-18 Tennis Tournament in Lucknow.
The tournament, sponsored by TVS, is being organised by SDS Tennis Academy under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility on the La Martiniere College campus.
In the other singles quarterfinals, top seed Vanshraj Jalota defeated Mohammad Ariz of Uttar Pradesh 7-5, 6-2, while second seed Faiz Kidwai overcame Aryaj Pandey 6-3, 6-1. Third seed Anuruddh secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Arya Singh to complete the semifinal lineup.
In the men’s doubles semifinals, fourth-seeded Virat Singh and Dhruv Singh pulled off an upset by defeating top seeds Faiz Kidwai and Vanshraj Jalota 2-6, 6-4, 10-3. After losing the opening set, Virat and Dhruv fought back to level the contest before dominating the deciding super tie-break.
In the other semifinal, second seeds Aarav Bhaskar and Anuruddh Kumar defeated third seeds Rajveer Bhoir and Amartya Chaudhary 6-3, 6-2 to book their place in the final.
The men’s doubles title clash will now see Virat Singh and Dhruv Singh face Aarav Bhaskar and Anuruddh Kumar.
The singles quarterfinals featured competitive performances, with the four seeded players advancing to the last four.
