Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is rapidly strengthening its position in India’s renewable energy sector, with solar power, bioenergy and other clean energy initiatives driving the state towards energy self-reliance, Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma said on Sunday.
Sharma made the remarks while participating in the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi, where he inaugurated an exhibition organised by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), the state’s nodal agency for renewable energy.
The exhibition showcased Uttar Pradesh’s achievements and ongoing initiatives in solar energy, bioenergy and other clean and green energy sectors, including the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and compressed biogas (CBG) projects.
The minister said Uttar Pradesh was playing an important role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat-2047. Under the Prime Minister’s vision and the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is consistently working to expand the adoption of clean and renewable energy.
He highlighted the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which is connecting lakhs of households with solar power while helping families reduce their electricity expenses.

Sharma added that the state was also encouraging compressed biogas and other alternative energy sources. These initiatives are creating new opportunities for energy generation while contributing to environmental protection, employment generation and strengthening the local economy.
The government’s broader objective, he said, is to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources and establish an affordable, sustainable and reliable energy ecosystem.
Emphasising the importance of national and international platforms such as the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo, Sharma said such events provide opportunities to showcase the state’s progress, attract investments and promote technological partnerships.
He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh’s continued progress in renewable energy, supported by policy initiatives, public participation and innovation, would make a significant contribution towards achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat-2047.
