Ayodhya to Illuminate the Sky with 2,100 Drones Depicting Ram-Ravana Battle; 600-Foot Fireworks Show Planned

Ayodhya: The tenth edition of Ayodhya’s Deepotsav will combine technology, culture and spirituality on an unprecedented scale, with 2,100 Made-in-India drones set to recreate scenes from the Ramayana, including the epic battle between Lord Ram and Ravana.

The approximately 10-minute aerial presentation will feature illuminated formations of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Hanuman in warrior postures, accompanied by laser effects, music and narration. A spectacular green aerial fireworks display, reaching heights of up to 600 feet, will also be organised over the old Saryu bridge.

The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is preparing an elaborate celebration, with 3.3 million earthen lamps scheduled to illuminate the holy city.

Drone Show Doubled in Scale

This year’s drone presentation will be significantly larger than previous editions. While 500 drones were used in 2024 and 1,100 in 2025, the number has been increased to 2,100 for Deepotsav 2026.

The drones will portray mythological and spiritual episodes through coordinated aerial formations.

Regional Tourism Officer Brijpal Singh said a 15-minute green aerial fireworks show would be organised at the old Saryu bridge, featuring environmentally conscious fireworks.

600-Foot Fireworks and Holographic Laser Display

Fireworks at Ram Ki Paidi will rise up to 600 feet, offering spectators across the Saryu river an opportunity to witness the spectacle.

A digital viewing platform with large screens is also being developed above the Ram Ki Paidi canal. A holographic laser presentation will depict episodes from all seven sections of the Ramayana, accompanied by performances by artists on a specially designed cultural stage over the water.

The presentations will also be broadcast live on screens for visitors.

Cultural Performances at Designated Venues

Ram Path will host folk music, dance and cultural performances by numerous artist groups. However, organisers have decided against setting up stages along the roadside.

According to Ashutosh Dwivedi, coordinator of the International Ramayana and Vedic Research Institute, stages will instead be arranged at locations offering sufficient space for visitors to stand and sit comfortably.

Eco-Friendly Cow-Dung Lamps at Ram Temple

In another initiative promoting sustainability, the Shri Ram Temple will be illuminated with eco-friendly lamps made from cow dung and clay.

These lamps are being manufactured at the Chakulia Gaushala in Jharkhand, described as the state’s largest cow shelter. The facility aims to produce 50,000 lamps this year, of which 5,000 will be sent to Ayodhya for Diwali.

With large-scale drone formations, laser storytelling, green fireworks and traditional earthen lamps, Deepotsav 2026 is being planned as a major celebration of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
