Gonda: Motiganj police have claimed to solve three theft cases involving liquor shops and residential houses, arresting one accused and taking a juvenile into protective custody. The police recovered ₹30,600 in cash, jewellery, 23 tetra packs of country-made liquor and tools allegedly used in the thefts.
According to police, the incidents occurred on the night of October 12–13 at a composite English liquor shop on the Kahoba-Dumariyadih Road, followed by thefts at a country liquor shop and two houses in Kundurkhi village on October 22–23.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted two motorcycle-borne persons near Chainvapur. The suspects allegedly attempted to flee but were apprehended.
The arrested accused has been identified as Ashish Kumar Mishra, son of Bhanu Pratap Mishra, a resident of Manpur Karohaman under Mankapur police station limits in Gonda district.
Police recovered two pairs of silver-coloured anklets, two pairs of toe rings, ₹30,600 in cash and 23 tetra packs of country-made liquor. An iron crowbar and a screwdriver were also seized. The Bajaj CT-100 motorcycle was impounded under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act after the rider failed to produce the required vehicle documents.
During questioning, Mishra allegedly admitted to involvement in the three thefts along with Abhishek Tiwari, Kallu Sonkar and a juvenile. Police said the accused had stolen liquor, beer and cash from the first shop and subsequently targeted two houses belonging to Shravan Kumar Maurya and Ram Keta r, besides a country liquor shop in Kundurkhi. The stolen goods were allegedly sold and the proceeds divided among the accused.
The arrested man was produced before the court, while further investigation into the alleged involvement of other suspects is underway.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Motiganj Station House Officer Tej Narayan Gupta, with Sub-Inspectors Ravindra Tiwari and Rohit Ranveer and other police personnel participating.
