Mumbai: Seema Azmi is all set to intrigue audiences with her role as Surekha in Ishika Shahi’s The Lift, presented by Directors Kut Production on its YouTube channel. The actress, who has worked across different mediums and explored a variety of characters, says that what immediately stood out to her about the series was its unusual concept and layered storytelling.
Describing her experience of being part of the project, Seema says, “It is a very different concept and a very different kind of story. All the characters that you are going to see have so many layers and so many emotions. There is so much of their story that every episode will give you something new to see.”

According to the actress, the uniqueness of the narrative is one of the strongest aspects of The Lift. She feels that the show manages to keep its characters unpredictable while introducing something new with every episode. “This is a very unique and different show in itself. Perhaps this kind of work has rarely been done,” she adds.
Seema also found the process of shooting the series particularly interesting because of its confined setting. Since much of the story unfolds inside a lift, the actors and crew had to work within a limited physical space.
“It was a lot of fun. As an actor, every time you get to do something new, you also get to learn something,” she says, adding that performing inside the small space was an experience unlike her previous projects.

The actress recalls that the lift set had not only the actors but also the director, cameraman, lighting team and other crew members working around them. “Performing in such a small space was an amazing experience,” she shares.
The physical environment also helped her connect with the emotions of the story. Seema reveals that the heat and lack of ventilation during the shoot made the experience feel even more real. “There was heat and suffocation, and you get such a real feeling. I would actually become claustrophobic sometimes while performing,” she says.
For Seema, The Lift has therefore been both an unusual acting challenge and an opportunity to explore a character with multiple layers. As Surekha, she hopes audiences will stay curious about the story and discover something unexpected with every episode.
