A lift. Four strangers. And a situation that gets more complicated with every passing moment.
Ishika Shahi’s The Lift, which is produced by Director’s Kut Production, and is streaming on their official YouTube channel, brings Adaa Khan, Seema Azmi, Mohak Meet and Pratik Sehajpal together for a psychological thriller that plays out largely within one confined space. But the real intrigue lies in what happens when these strangers are forced to spend time together and start revealing sides of themselves.

Here are five things that make the series worth watching.
1. The setting immediately grabs your attention: There is something naturally uncomfortable about being stuck in a lift. Now put four strangers in that situation and let the tension build. The limited space works well for a thriller because there is no easy escape. Every conversation matters, every reaction can raise a question and the audience is left wondering what will happen next.
2. The mystery is about the people too: Getting out of the lift is obviously one part of the story. But The Lift also makes you look at the four people trapped inside it. What do they know? What are they not saying? And can any of them actually be trusted? The more you get to know the characters, the more questions start coming up. That keeps the story from being just another survival situation.

3. The characters have their own shades: Not everyone in the story can be easily put into a good or bad category. And that makes the characters more interesting to follow. Seema Azmi’s Surekha, for instance, is not written as someone who is simply good or bad. The actress has described her as human, which says a lot about the grey areas the show explores.
4. The cast brings different energies to the story: Adaa Khan, Seema Azmi, Mohak Meet and Pratik Sehajpal are playing very different characters, and putting all four together creates an interesting mix. Pratik plays Hriday, a young man from a wealthy family who initially comes across as spoilt and arrogant. Then there are the other characters, each with their own personality and secrets. When all of them are stuck in the same lift, clashes are bound to happen.
5. It keeps the story focused: The Lift does not need a huge world or multiple locations to tell its story. The entire situation is built around a simple question: what happens when these four people are stuck together? From there, the characters and their behaviour drive the story forward. For viewers who enjoy psychological thrillers that rely on suspense, character dynamics and the questions that keep coming up, The Lift has enough going for it to make it an interesting watch.
