Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Lucknow district in-charge minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Tuesday planted a sapling at Veer Bahadur Singh Park opposite Indira Bhawan, calling for sustained plantation efforts to make Lucknow cleaner, greener and more environmentally sustainable.
During his visit, Khanna inspected the park and directed officials to improve its lighting facilities. He instructed the concerned authorities to ensure proper illumination across the park by October 10 so that visitors and residents do not face inconvenience.
Khanna said Lucknow had earlier faced challenges related to air quality, but collective efforts by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and various organisations had resulted in significant improvement. He stressed that continued plantation and proper care of existing trees would be essential to maintain and further improve the city’s air quality.
He said the Lucknow Municipal Corporation organises a plantation drive every Tuesday and that the Mayor and the civic body’s entire team were committed to the initiative. The objective, he said, is to plant as many saplings as possible every Tuesday while ensuring their regular maintenance and protection.
Khanna said increasing green cover could help reduce the impact of global warming, improve air quality and strengthen environmental balance in the city.
He emphasised that environmental protection is not the responsibility of the government or any single institution alone, but a collective responsibility of citizens. He appealed to people from all sections of society to participate actively in plantation drives and take a pledge not only to plant saplings but also to nurture and protect them.
