Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandi Ben Patel inaugurated a newly developed Bonsai Garden at the Jan Bhavan complex. After the inauguration, the Governor inspected the garden and offered floral tribute at the statue of Lord Dhanvantari installed on the premises.
Developed under the Governor’s vision and guidance, the garden features an attractive waterfall and fish pond, adding to the greenery and aesthetic appeal of the Jan Bhavan campus. The fish pond has been stocked with ornamental goldfish, while arrangements have been made for regular monitoring of water quality and fish health through the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR).
Addressing officers, employees and residents of Jan Bhavan, Patel said completing a task was relatively easy, but ensuring its continuous supervision was more challenging. She stressed the need to develop a habit of regular monitoring and said people should work together in an atmosphere of mutual harmony.
“Jan Bhavan is our collective home,” the Governor said, emphasising that keeping the premises clean, attractive and organised was the responsibility of everyone. She urged officials and employees to discharge their duties with a sense of responsibility, while maintaining an active and positive approach to work.
Patel also called for greater emphasis on collective working and periodic self-assessment so that employees could reflect on whether they were fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.
She directed officials to ensure proper maintenance of the three theme-based fountains inaugurated at Jan Bhavan on September 14 — the Panchatantra Fountain, the Uttar Pradesh State Emblem Fountain and the Shri Ram Bow Fountain. She said maintaining the beauty and arrangements of Jan Bhavan could not be left to one individual or department and required collective responsibility.
The Governor also appreciated the ongoing work on the ‘Gangasagar Namo Namah’ project based on the theme ‘Gangotri to Gangasagar’. The project is scheduled to be inaugurated on September 17, 2026, in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as part of programmes marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.
Special Officer to the Governor, Dr Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, Additional Chief Secretary rank, praised the development of the Bonsai Garden and said the project had been financed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and completed ahead of schedule.
He said the garden included a pond with flowing water and live fish. He stressed the need to maintain appropriate water quality and temperature and ensure continuous monitoring and upkeep of the facility. He also emphasised training for Jan Bhavan horticulture staff through the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources on pond maintenance, water quality management and fish care.
Lucknow Divisional Commissioner and LDA Chairman Vijay Vishwas Pant also appreciated the development and innovation works being undertaken at Jan Bhavan under the Governor’s guidance. He said initiatives including a space lab and a primary school had helped create a positive educational environment at the complex. He also highlighted several initiatives being undertaken in districts under the Governor’s guidance, including TB eradication efforts, development of Anganwadi centres and HPV vaccination.
The ornamental goldfish in the Bonsai Garden pond will undergo periodic health checks, while water quality will also be monitored through the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources. The Horticulture Department and Public Works Department have been entrusted with regular maintenance of the pond.
The development of theme-based fountains and waterfalls at Jan Bhavan began on June 6, 2026. The project was originally scheduled for completion on December 3, 2026, but was completed in August, nearly four months ahead of schedule.
Daily inspections have been arranged to ensure quality standards, along with regular monitoring of water quality and fish pond maintenance.
The Bonsai Garden, with its waterfall, fish pond and landscaped green surroundings, adds to the natural beauty of the Jan Bhavan complex and is expected to offer visitors an appealing combination of nature, water and biodiversity.
All officers, employees and residents of Jan Bhavan were present at the inauguration programme.
