Hamari Radha Actor Akshay Mhatre Carries Forward His Father’s Raksha Bandhan Tradition

Mumbai: For Akshay Mhatre, who plays Girdhar in Anmol TV’s show Hamari Radha, Raksha Bandhan is more than just a festival—it is a celebration of bonds built through love, memories and tradition.

Akshay does not have a biological sister, but the sisters who tie rakhi to him every year are part of a special family tradition that began with his father. Akshay’s father also did not have a biological sister. During his childhood, girls from his neighbourhood would tie rakhi to him, and over the years, those bonds grew stronger.

Watching his father nurture these relationships with affection, Akshay decided to carry the tradition forward. Today, he celebrates Raksha Bandhan with his sisters and cherishes the emotional connection they share.

Akshay believes the true beauty of Raksha Bandhan lies in passing such bonds from one generation to another. While the tradition of exchanging gifts has evolved, the sentiment remains unchanged. Earlier, his father helped him choose gifts for his sisters; today, his wife happily takes on the responsibility.

“Raksha Bandhan is special to me because it is a day that strengthens relationships we want to keep close to our hearts,” Akshay said. “Even though I never had a biological sister, I have sisters today, and celebrating the festival with them allows me to continue a tradition started by my father.”

He recalled gifting his sisters silver jewellery a few years ago, which they particularly loved. For Akshay, such memories make the festival even more meaningful.

Meanwhile, Hamari Radha is heading towards an emotional turn. Radha’s growing suspicion about Girdhar is beginning to challenge the trust in their relationship. With doubts surrounding Girdhar and Shanaya, played by Vaidehi Nair, the upcoming episodes will reveal whether Radha’s suspicions ultimately lead her to the truth about their relationship.
