All-Party Consensus on Smooth Functioning of the House; Leader of Opposition Lal Bihari Yadav Heaps Praise on Deputy CM
Lucknow — Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya took part in a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the UP Legislative Council on Saturday, chaired by Council Chairman Kunwar Manvendra Singh. The meeting brought together Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna, Leader of the Opposition Lal Bihari Yadav, Sanjay Nishad, Akshay Pratap Singh, and Council members cutting across party lines.
Much of the discussion centered on how to run the upcoming session smoothly — the agenda, the schedule, and ensuring proceedings stay orderly and productive. Members were largely on the same page, agreeing that the House should honor democratic traditions and keep discussions on public-interest issues both positive and constructive.
One notable outcome: Leader of the Opposition Lal Bihari Yadav requested that the supplementary budget discussion, originally scheduled for August 4, be moved to August 5–6 instead, so all parties would have adequate time for a thorough debate. Deputy CM Maurya responded favorably and accepted the request without hesitation.
Yadav also took the opportunity to commend Maurya’s working style, his openness to dialogue, and what he described as a genuinely cooperative approach to running the House. Dialogue and coordination between parties, Yadav said, are essential to strengthening democratic values — and he credited the Deputy CM with consistently playing a constructive role on that front.
Addressing the meeting, Maurya appealed to all political parties and members to extend full cooperation in ensuring the House functions in a dignified and orderly manner. The legislature, he said, is democracy’s highest platform, and everything that happens within it is tied directly to public trust and expectation.
He also pointed out that the cost of running the House comes from taxpayer money — money contributed by the people of the state and the country — which is why every elected representative has a duty to make meaningful use of that time for public-interest discussions. Repeated walkouts or unnecessary disruptions, he added, waste valuable time and ultimately hurt the work the public expects from its representatives.
The Deputy CM called on all parties to uphold democratic decorum and extend positive cooperation, adding that the government respects every constructive suggestion from the opposition and remains open to healthy, meaningful debate on issues of public interest.
The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with members pledging to work together to make the upcoming session smooth, dignified, and focused on public welfare.
